Meet The Team
Joel Huet CFP®, CTFA, CISP
Joel graduated from Fort Hays State University (1986) with his BBA. He later obtained his MBA from the University of Missouri- Kansas City (1992). Joel is also a graduate of the Cannon Trust School, Pepperdine University and the College for Financial Planning, Denver, Colorado. In addition to his CFP®, Joel also has his Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) and Certified IRA Professional (CISP) designations.
Prior to founding White Sand Wealth Management, Joel was the Trust Market Manager for BOK Financial. He has also held positions as the Division Manager for the Wealth Management Group at Blue Ridge Bank and as the Director of Sales for the Commerce Trust Company.
Joel is a member of the Children’s Mercy Hospital Planned Giving Council. He is also the former Chairman of the Missouri Bankers Association Trust Services Committee, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City Corporate Club, and Vice Chairman of Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Clay County. Joel is a current member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).
Karen Burris CTFA, CISP
Karen graduated from Missouri Western State University (1982) with her Bachelor of Science. Karen is also a graduate of the Cannon Trust School, Boston University, Boston, Mass. and has her Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) and Certified IRA Professional (CISP) designations.
Karen has over thirty years in the financial industry. Prior to joining White Sand Wealth, Karen was a Senior Trust Officer for BOK Financial. She has held similar positions at both Commerce Bank and Blue Ridge Bank and Trust.
Karen is a member of Donald H Chisholm Planned Giving Council of Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. She is currently volunteering as a budget counselor for Hillcrest Hope. She is also the former Chairman of the Missouri Bankers Association Trust Services Committee and a former member of the Park University Planned Giving Council.
Samantha Kopek CFP®
SENIOR FINANCIAL PLANNER
Samantha graduated from the University of Kansas with her BA in 1992. In addition to her Certified Financial Planner designation, Samantha is also an enrolled agent with the Internal Revenue Service. She is a past president of the Financial Planning Association of Kansas City.
Samantha is a TTPros Senior Tax Expert with Intuit. She was also the former Director of Financial Planning with BOK Financial. Prior to her time at BOK, Samantha spent several years with the Legacy Trust Company.
Kelly Kariker CFP®
SENIOR FINANCIAL ADVISOR
Kelly graduated from William Jewell College (2000) with her Bachelor of Arts degree. Kelly is also a graduate of the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional.
Kelly has over twenty years in the financial industry. Prior to joining White Sand Wealth, Kelly was an Investment Manager for BOK Financial and held a similar position with The Commerce Trust Company, a division of Commerce Bank. Kelly was involved in several committees including Equity Strategy, Fixed Income, Alternative Investment Strategy and Asset Allocation.
Kelly currently serves as a a budget counselor volunteer for Hillcrest Hope Transitional Housing.
AJ graduated from Robert Morris University-Illinois, obtaining his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He achieved a spot on the Dean’s list in each of his four years and graduated Cum Laude. AJ was a 4-year starter on the Robert Morris baseball team, and as a senior was named an Academic All-American. He is currently working on his Master of Science in Finance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
AJ is a member of the Friends of Children’s Mercy Northland and volunteers as a budgeting counselor at Hillcrest Hope. AJ has been active with Ronald McDonald House Charities and Mercy Communities.
Sam graduated cum laude from Robert Morris University-Illinois with a BBA. During his time at RMU he was a four year starter on the baseball team and was placed on the Academic All-American team twice. Sam also earned a spot on the Dean’s list each of his 4 years. He is currently working on his Master of Science in Finance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
He is a member of the Friends of Children’s Mercy Northland and is currently a budget counselor at Hillcrest Hope. Sam has also been involved with helping Ronald McDonald House of Charities, and Mercy Community.
